Limulicubichnus Miller, 1982


DESCRIPTION: Lunate or teardrop-shaped depression (concave epirelief) on a bedding plane or cast of a depression (convex hyporelief), serrate posterior margin, elongate terminus, and/or with appendage markings.

BEHAVIOR(S): Cubichnia (resting).

ENVIRONMENTAL SETTINGS: Marine to continental freshwater aquatic.

POSSIBLE TRACEMAKERS: Horseshoe crabs.

GEOLOGIC RANGE: Ordovician–recent for marine horseshoe crabs, Devonian–Jurassic for freshwater horseshoe crabs.

REMARKS: May appear similar to Rusophycus. Miller (1982) says may also be a spawning burrow in intertidal zones based on modern observations. Kouphichnium may transition into Limulicubichnus.
