DESCRIPTION: Left- or right-handed downward spiraling helix of uniform diameters of tube and whorl with or without scratch marks.

BEHAVIOR(S): Domichnia (dwelling)

ENVIRONMENTAL SETTINGS: Shallow marine environments.

POSSIBLE TRACEMAKERS: Polychaete worms, arthropods

GEOLOGIC RANGE: Cambrian-recent

REMARKS: Similar in appearance to Daimonelix, Eatonichnus, and Xenohelix. Gyrolithes are likely portions of larger burrow complexes such as Thalassinoides and Ophiomorpha.
