Phyllodocites Geinitz, 1867


DESCRIPTION: Curved or meandering horizontal surface trails consisting of a smooth median furrow flanked on either side by pairs of spindle-shaped ridges whose long axes make an acute angle with axis of trail. Outside of each pair of ridges are oval depressions of similar size that commonly overlap. Trace is approximately bilaterally symmetrical.

BEHAVIOR(S): Fodinichnia, repichnia of a shelled animal that moved its shell from side to side with forward motion

ENVIRONMENTAL SETTINGS: Marine

POSSIBLE TRACEMAKERS: Most likely brachiopods. Trilobites, annelid worms, and gastropods have been suggested as possible tracemakers but were rejected by Raymond (1931).
